Hi. My name is Richard Bustos. Welcome to my Blog

Finding my Ikigai

Finding my Ikigai

What does Ikigai mean?

Ikigai is a Japanese word whose meaning translates roughly to a reason for being, encompassing joy, a sense of purpose and meaning and a feeling of well-being. The word derives from iki, meaning life and kai, meaning the realization of hopes and expectations.

My co-worker first introduced me to this word prior to his departure of leaving the company after 10 years. The company we worked for provided us free food, unlimited vacation/sick days, and we worked on an awesome team. I was baffled when he told me he was leaving. Right before he left, he slipped me a piece of paper with the printed image that you see below.

Finding my Ikigai

What makes me happy, brings me joy, and brings me a sense of purpose? A bunch of things but heres a few:

  • Spending time with love ones
  • Helping/teaching others
  • Creating content and art (Coding in this avenue)
  • Meditation and practicing mindfulness
  • Travelling & eating
  • Jiu Jitsu

One of the reasons why I wanted to create this blog is that I wanted to share the practice of minimalism, mindfulness, empathy, travel, meditation and even financial investment strategies. I think my "purpose" is to help others. I'm still all trying to figure it out..

So I am glad you're here with me on this journey!
